Legal professionals have suggested stronger judicial efforts be made in agricultural science and technology innovation, so that China can promote sustainable development in the field and further advance the building of village vitalization.

The suggestion was forwarded by a number of Beijing judges and professors from academies at a rule of law forum of the 2023 World Agrifood Innovation Conference, which was held in the capital from Thursday to Saturday.

While pledging to promote the village governance and facilitate the agricultural growth by efficiently dealing with relevant disputes, Du Yan, president of the Beijing Pinggu District People's Court, the organizer of the forum, said that it is essential to use legal thinking and methods to help modernize agriculture and rural areas.

"Pinggu, as the city's agricultural region, should contribute more to the agricultural development by exploring and establishing a set of collective land use management systems that can be replicated and expanded," Han Xiaobo, head of the district's commission for political and legal affairs, said on Saturday.

Regarding the forum as a platform for judicial exchanges, An Fengde, vice-president of the Beijing High People's Court, called for judges citywide to research more on hot issues and new problems involving agriculture, making their efforts to improve the quality of relevant case hearing.

While talking about an issue of rural collective land market, Wang Xu, a law professor from Renmin University of China, highlighted the importance of strengthening research and studies in the field of administrative laws, in order to safeguard the land rights and ensure the land security.

Besides the discussion between the participants, the forum also attracted some 100 visitors to attend and exchange ideas on agricultural development by rule of law, according to the Pinggu court.
