A total of 109 student volunteers from Shanghai's universities, along with four international student volunteers, have been stationed at the venue to provide multilingual services. Several of these volunteers are based in the media center.

"Our responsibility is to deal with foreign reporters and answer any questions that they have," said Mozambican Naila Cossa, a volunteer at the media center and a Donghua University undergrad. "I want to volunteer at the CIIE because it is one of the biggest events, especially economy-wise, that links China and most of the world. It also portrays the Belt and Road Initiative, which brings our nations together," Cossa added.

Another highlight at the media center is the series of interactive image displays about Shanghai and cultural galleries which are aimed at showcasing Chinese cultural heritage via the use of technologies like augmented reality.
