Police fine five for chasing Tibetan antelopes in SUV

Chinese authorities have fined five people for chasing Tibetan antelopes in an SUV in a nature reserve in Tibet autonomous region.

The incident came to light after a video of the white SUV chasing the antelopes circulated online. The video garnered public attention, as Tibetan antelopes are under first-class national protection.

Upon learning of the incident, the forest police brigade of the local public security bureau in Shanza county promptly launched an investigation. The suspects in the video were subsequently apprehended in the neighboring Palgon county.

According to the findings of the investigation, on Saturday, five individuals surnamed Liang, Shi, Chen, Yang, and Xiong entered the Siling Co national nature reserve without authorization in a white SUV. They then engaged in the pursuit of Tibetan antelopes.

Fortunately, no antelopes were harmed or killed during the incident, and no wildlife or wildlife products were found inside the vehicle.

In accordance with the relevant regulations, the five individuals were given a warning and each received a fine of 5,000 yuan ($680).

The local forest police brigade issued a reminder at the end of the notification that Tibet is an ecologically fragile area. Tourists should respect and protect the natural habitats and wildlife within the nature reserves in Tibet. And any vehicle is prohibited to enter the natural reserve without authorization.
