Former head of National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration stands trial for corruption
CHENGDU -- Zhang Wufeng, former director of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, on Thursday stood trial for accepting bribes.
The case was heard by the Intermediate People's Court of Deyang in Southwest China's Sichuan province.
Between 2003 and 2022, Zhang allegedly took advantage of his various positions to assist other individuals and entities on issues such as project contracting and career promotions. In return, he accepted money and property valued at a total of more than 16.47 million yuan (about $2.25 million) between 2006 and 2022, according to the Deyang Municipal People's Procuratorate.
In court, the prosecutors presented their evidence, which the defendant and his lawyers then cross-examined.
Zhang pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in his final statement.
A verdict will be announced in due course.
