China to launch monthlong national defense education campaign

China is launching a monthlong campaign in September to promote national defense education among the general public.
The Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee issued a guideline recently, requiring relevant departments to organize various types of activities nationwide, including lectures on revolutionary history at the grassroots level, national defense education in university campuses, and open-day events at military barracks.
The department said the campaign aims to create a consensus among the public to care about, love, and contribute to national defense.
China designated the third Saturday in September as National Defense Education Day in 2001, and organizes relevant activities every year to enhance the awareness of national defense among the public.
