Ferrari owner accepts $30 compensation for scratched car

A Ferrari owner in Shanghai has accepted a meager 190 yuan ($30) in compensation after his car worth 4.5 million yuan was scratched by a scooter.
The luxury car owner, surnamed Gan, said he empathized with the disabled driver's situation and his apparent inability to offer a substantial compensation amount. He believed that a higher compensation amount would only burden the driver further.
The cost for the repair of the scar on the Ferrari is estimated to be over 20,000 yuan.
Gan's decision has garnered attention on social media, with some netizens lauding his understanding towards the driver, while others expressed concern over the disabled vehicle's initial violation and his attempt to flee the scene.
The incident occurred when Gan's Ferrari was waiting for a traffic light to turn green on Aug 15. A scooter suddenly rushed out from the left side of his car and grazed the car's rear mirror. The scooter driver then attempted to flee the scene, but Gan quickly pursued and intercepted the vehicle at a pedestrian crossing.
After learning that the scooter driver was handicapped and had financial difficulties, Gan said he would accept whatever compensation the driver could offer.
The scooter driver offered to pay 190 yuan, which Gan accepted. He said he hoped that his decision would serve as a reminder to those who disregard traffic rules.
The incident drew mixed reactions from netizens on social media. Some praised the Ferrari owner for his understanding towards the driver, while others expressed concern over the disabled driver's initial violation of traffic rules and his attempt to flee the scene.
