Man detained for making false emergency calls after drinking

A man in Xiamen, Fujian province, has been detained for repeatedly making false emergency calls after drinking alcohol.
The man, surnamed Yang, made a total of 119 calls to the 110 emergency hotline within 23 hours from Aug 7 to 8, according to a report of Xiamen Daily.
When the police apprehended Yang, a 41-year-old resident who was unemployed, he still had the smell of alcohol on his breath.
"Anyone can make these calls, and so can I," Yang said in a drunken and excited state when faced with the police.
When asked if he really had an emergency situation that needed to be addressed, he smirked and said, "No."
The police said that Yang had also made multiple unjustified calls to government hotlines and the 120 emergency medical services hotline.
Yang has been administratively detained for 9 days.
The police warned that making malicious calls to 110 or fabricating false emergencies are all illegal activities. These actions waste police resources and prevent those in need from receiving timely assistance. They also disturb the order of work within the public security department.
The public security department will handle such cases in a strict and lawful manner. For cases with severe circumstances, the individuals involved will be held criminally responsible.
