Typhoon brings flood to Tianjin

A flash flood roared through areas of the Haihe River in Tianjin on Monday morning in the wake of heavy rains brought by Typhoon Doksuri since Saturday, according to the website of the Ministry of Water Resources.
The city issued an orange warning for floods at 10 am on Monday. Several rivers in the area were expected to experience significant rises in water level between Monday and Sunday because of floodwaters in upstream river channels. The Jiyun Canal River, Chaobaixin River, Qinglong Bay Jianhe River, Yongding River, Daqing River and others may approach or exceed the warning level, the local water authority said.
In the Yongding River area, the authorities raised the alert level to red and began to transfer local residents to safety areas on Monday afternoon.
Zhang Dongfang, an official from the flood and drought disaster relief office under Tianjin's Bureau of Emergency Management said the city has shifted its flood prevention priority to discharge work, aiming to lower water levels in rivers within its jurisdiction and maximize storage capacity, according to the app for Jinyun, a local outlet.
