Two people found dead in Beijing river channel
The latest round of strong rain in Beijing is responsible for two deaths in Mentougou district as of Monday afternoon, district authorities said.
During rescue and inspection operations on Monday morning, two people were found dead in a river channel, they said. The names of the dead, location and other details were not provided.
Since 8 pm on Saturday, Mentougou has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall. As of 3:30 pm, the average precipitation in the district reached 320.8 millimeters, with 11 stations recording over 400 mm and 2 stations exceeding 500 mm.
The most rain was recorded at a station on Miaofeng Mountain, which reported reaching 580.9 mm.
The district is asking residents to stay away from areas at risk, such as river channels, mountains and flooded roads.
