Chinese livestreamer gets wave of sympathy after cancer diagnosis

Feng Timo, a Chinese livestreamer known for her singing, is recovering from surgery after being diagnosed with advanced thyroid cancer.
Feng, who had stopped livestreaming for half a year, announced Monday on her personal Sina Weibo account, a Twitter-like social platform in China, she was in recovery. After surgery she wasn't able to talk for a time, which made her frustrated since singing is her passion. But now, her voice is back and she is ready to return after recovering, she said.
The post created a sensation on social media and related topics rushed to the top of Weibo's trending list later that night. Many fans were surprised and concerned about her condition. One Weibo user named A Mao Xi asked: "What is thyroid cancer? Is this advanced thyroid cancer curable?"
According to the origin and differentiation of tumors, thyroid cancer can be divided into different pathological types.
Papillary thyroid carcinoma is the most common type of thyroid cancer, accounting for 85 to 90 percent of all cases. These tumors are relatively mild, causing the condition to be called "lazy cancer." As the name implies, this type of tumor grows and progresses slowly, resulting in a higher clinical cure rate.
However, not all thyroid cancers are mild, so regular physical examination is advised. Once diagnosed, prompt medical treatment is the most scientific approach to deal with the disease.
