Fugitive returns to China for surrender

Guo Qigang, a fugitive suspected of duty-related crimes who served as Party secretary of the SDIC Power, has returned to China to surrender thanks to the coordination of the central anti-corruption group's fugitive repatriation and asset recovery office.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, China's top anti-corruption watchdog, disclosed the news in a statement on Wednesday through the website.

Guo, 59, who once served as Party chief of the leading power generation company under the State Development and Investment Corp, fled overseas in July 2019 after he was suspected of serious duty-related violations and crimes, it said.

It added that investigators have sealed up and frozen the assets involved in the case in line with the law.

Guo's returning is also in part thanks to the effort of the provincial fugitive repatriation office, as well as disciplinary and supervisory agencies in Datong, Shanxi, and in the corporation, the statement said.

"Guo's returning and surrender was a major achievement infighting corruption concerning State-owned enterprises and carrying out the Skynet, an anti-graft manhunt campaign," the central fugitive repatriation and asset recovery office said.
