Former university official being prosecuted for bribery
Gu Xiaoyuan, former Party secretary of Beijing International Studies University, is being prosecuted for the suspected crimes of corruption and bribery, according to a statement issued by the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
The SPP announced the news on its website, saying the third branch of the Beijing People's Procuratorate has initiated prosecution with the Beijing No 3 Intermediate People's Court.
The prosecutors accused Gu, who served as a state official, of using his positions to illegally siphon public funds to an unusually large degree, and accepted bribes after seeking benefits for others, also at large sums.
The prosecutors added Gu should be held criminally liable for corruption and bribery.
Gu, 57, a native of Jiangsu province, was placed under investigation in October for suspected severe violations of the discipline of the Communist Party of China and the law.
