Investigators to unravel deadly food poisoning incident


An investigative team was organized swiftly after an incident of poisoning was reported at a food processing factory in Jiexi county in Jieyang, Guangdong province, according to the province's emergency management authorities.
The poisoning, which occurred at a preserved fruit processing factory in Fengjiang township on Tuesday, resulted in four deaths and one injury, the authorities said.
In accordance with laws and regulations on production safety, the Guangdong Department of Emergency Management ordered an investigation. A notice posted on the department's website on Thursday, the authorities said that an accountability investigation should also be promptly undertaken, in coordination with disciplinary inspection and supervisory commissions, to hold accountable the companies, units and individuals responsible.
A preliminary investigation report should also be submitted within seven days after the accident, with the progress of the investigation and handling of the incident being reported to the provincial safety production committee every 15 days.
