Village uses poverty alleviation policies to revitalize itself

A village located amid the dense tropical rainforest under the foot of Wuzhishan Mountain, Hainan province is becoming prettier, richer and cleaner as villagers have made full use of local resources in recent years to develop their economy while protecting the natural environment under the leadership of local authorities.
Maona village, one with most of its 135 residents being members of Li ethnic group, used to be an underdeveloped, isolated place with muddy roads and dilapidated buildings.
In recent years, with the implementation of various policies and measures for poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, villagers have developed a series of industries based on its geographical advantages as part of the Wuzhishan area of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park.
Such industries include tea planting and processing, rural tourism and leisure agriculture, said Wang Ying, a local government official.
