Shanxi court sentences 16 over deadly mine accident

Sixteen defendants involved in a deadly mine flood accident in Daixian county, Shanxi province, were sentenced recently by the Daixian County People's Court, according to a CCTV report.
According to the court, due to illegal mining, a flood accident happened on June 10, 2021, at an iron mine of Dahongcai Mining Co Ltd in Daixian, causing the death of 13 workers.
The accused, as the actual controller, manager and directly responsible person of the enterprise involved, violated relevant safety management regulations and caused major casualties.
They received sentences ranging from five years and 11 months to two years and six months for being liable for the accident for the crime of negligently causing a serious accident.
