Conference lauds China's achievements on women's rights
On Friday, the All-China Women's Federation, UN Women China and the United Nations Population Fund China co-hosted an event in Beijing titled Together for an Equal Tomorrow: Workshop on Gender Equality Laws and Policies.
Huang Xiaowei, vice-president of the All-China Women's Federation said that China values the development of women's issues as this involves the protection of women's rights and interests through laws and regulations, which then become internalized as social norms.
Smriti Aryal, country representative of UN Women, and Justine Coulson, UNFPA representative, gave an overview of the UN practice of promoting gender equality in China at the workshop.
They expressed appreciation for China's efforts and achievements in protecting women's rights and added that the United Nations will strengthen cooperation with China on promoting global gender equality.
