More cross-border trains to HK to be added
Cross-border trains from Guangdong province to neighboring Hong Kong will increase significantly soon, with increased passenger demand between the Chinese mainland and the special administrative region, according to China Railway Guangzhou Group.
According to the railway, 12.5 pairs of more trains from Zhaoqing, Chaozhou and Shantou in Guangdong to Hong Kong's West Kowloon Station will be added starting on Saturday, taking the number of high-speed trains to Hong Kong to 51 pairs daily.
There has been strong demand for passenger travel since high-speed train service between Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong resumed on Jan 15, the railway group said.
As of Monday, the number of passengers arriving and leaving Hong Kong via the West Kowloon Station averaged 21,000 per day.
