Man detained over child slapping incident

Police in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, have detained a father who was seen in a video slapping his son's kindergarten classmate. He also assaulted the child's grandfather, police said.

The video shows the father, who is a doctor, sitting face to face with a 5-year-old. The man then slaps the child to the ground. The video went viral on the Chinese internet on Wednesday.

According to the local police, the two children had fought over a toy on Tuesday at the kindergarten.

Together with his wife, the father then went to the child's home, where he slapped the child and shoved the grandfather. The older man fell and broke his right leg.

Police said the father has been detained on suspicion of intentional injury.
