Former senior Qinghai provincial legislator expelled from CPC, public office

BEIJING -- Li Jiexiang, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of Qinghai Provincial People's Congress, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office over severe violations of Party discipline and laws, the country's top anti-graft body said Monday.
The punishment was handed down following an investigation into Li conducted by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee. Li was also a former member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Qinghai Provincial Committee.
The investigation found that Li, having lost his ideals and convictions, had been deeply engaged in various illegal activities, including resisting investigation by authorities, accepting huge amounts of gifts and money, and intervening in judicial procedures and market economy affairs.
Li's activities have gravely breached Party discipline and constituted significant violations of duty-related laws. Li is also suspected of the criminal offense of accepting bribes.
In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision was made to expel Li from the Party, remove him from public office, terminate his qualification as a delegate to the 19th CPC National Congress, confiscate his illicit gains, and hand over his case to the procuratorate for criminal investigation and prosecution.
