China wins two golds, two silvers at badminton's Indonesia Open
JAKARTA - China claimed two golds and two silvers as the 2022 Indonesia Open badminton tournament at the Istora Senayan stadium concluded here on Sunday evening.
China's top-seeded duo Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong secured the mixed doubles title after a crushing 21-14, 21-16 defeat of Japan's Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino in 41 minutes.
Last Sunday, world No 2 pair Zheng and Huang had taken gold at the Indonesian Masters tournament held at the same stadium. "The medals of today and last week proved that we are a good team," said Huang.
Their compatriots Liu Yuchen and Ou Xuanyi secured the men's doubles title by downing their South Korean opponents Choi Sol-gyu and Kim Won-ho of South Korea 21-17, 23-21.
Fellow Chinese Wang Zhiyi, 22, finished with a silver medal in the women's singles after losing to Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu-ying 21-23, 21-6, 21-15 in an hour-long contest.
Zhao Junpeng took the silver in the men's singles as the 26-year-old was knocked out by world No 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark 21-9, 21-10.
In the all-Japanese women's doubles final, Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida beat Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota 18-21, 21-14, 21-17.
