In this documentary series, the principal and the volunteers tell their story.

Episode 1

The 7th teaching building

On the campus of Fudan University in Shanghai, there are six teaching buildings. But there's a seventh one about 2,000 kilometers away — Sanhe Middle School in Xihaigu, Ningxia Hui autonomous region.

Wu Heng, a volunteer teacher at Sanhe, reached out on the internet and gathered funds to buy every student two dictionaries.

"When they encounter words they don't recognize, they can ask a teacher or consult a dictionary," Wu said. "Teachers might be away, but dictionaries will always be around."
