After completing seven days of self-quarantine at her home in Changchun, Jilin province, Li Qishi hurried to volunteer in the fight against the recent COVID-19 outbreak in the city.

Li, 28, a world champion in short track speed skating, returned to her hometown on March 7 after finishing her trip to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

"During my quarantine period in my hometown, I got lots of information about the epidemic," she said. "There were calls for volunteers across the city, and at that moment I decided to take part after the quarantine."

Li was assigned to the Yan'an community and started her volunteer work on Saturday. She is responsible for delivering goods for daily living and epidemic prevention and control, such as COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits.

"Delivering the kits to their doors, we explain the application method to residents," she said. "Although I had used the kit several times during training overseas, I still felt a little nervous, so I watched the instruction video repeatedly so I could explain clearly."

Li won the gold medal in women's 1,000-meter short track speed skating during the World Cup Series 2014-15 season. She also well performed at the 2022 Beijing Games.

"In past years, I didn't spend much time at home because of my busy training and competition schedule," she said. "I feel honored to do something for my hometown during my vacation this time."
