Kevin Lau Chung-hang, a non-official member of the Commission on Poverty, said that the Media Freedom Coalition's accusations that Hong Kong lacks freedom of speech are untrue. He said freedom of speech in the city is safeguarded by the Basic Law and National Security Law for Hong Kong, and the freedom has been maintained and unchanged.
