Tourism rises in Beijing's suburbs
Up to 869,000 people toured Beijing's suburbs during this seven-day Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, up 220 percent from the same period last year, according to the city's cultural and tourism bureau.
The visitors brought in total revenues of 138 million yuan ($21.69 million), an increase of 140 percent year-on-year.
Three districts — Yanqing, Miyun and Huairou — were the top three destinations.
Homestays in the capital have received 94,300 guests during the holiday period from Jan 31 to Feb 6, up 52.91 percent year-on-year.
Since the Beijing Winter Olympic Games opened during the holiday, the public has shown growing enthusiasm for winter sports at ski resorts in Beijing's suburbs. Downtown areas have also held winter sports- or Olympic-themed events.
