Xinjiang sees robust passenger, cargo throughput in Spring Festival holiday


URUMQI -- The railways and airports in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region posted a robust passenger and cargo throughput growth during the Spring Festival holiday, authorities said.
According to the Urumqi Railway Bureau under China Railway, more than 539,800 railway passenger trips were made from Jan 31 to Feb 6 in the region, up 68.3 percent from the holiday period in the previous year, while railways sent 5.5 million tonnes of cargo, up 10.8 percent.
Airports in Xinjiang handled 384,400 passenger trips and 929 tonnes of cargo during the holiday, rising respectively by 40.8 percent and 49 percent year on year, the Xinjiang Airport Group Co Ltd said.
No major accidents took place in the region during the Spring Festival holiday.
