Fudan holds media communication forum


Global scholars and experts of journalism and communication studies attended a forum on integrated media and global communication at Fudan University in Shanghai on Sunday.
Themed "the study of integrated media in the perspective of digital civilization", the forum was organized by Fudan University and attended by around 300 people online and offline. The one-day forum featured six keynote speeches and three panel discussions.
An international communication database system developed by the School of Journalism at Fudan was also launched during the forum.
Tang Jingtai, a professor of journalism, said the system will facilitate research on international communication as the system collects data from social media platforms and mainstream media and analyzes it through multiple dimensions.
Noshir Contractor, a professor of Northwestern University, shared his study via video link on the theories and methods used to understand and enable the changing nature of work which have been heavily impacted by algorithm today.
Claes De Vreese, a professor of the University of Amsterdam, gave a speech on the public values in a changing media landscape.
Zhu Jianhua, a professor of City University of Hong Kong, then shared his thoughts on the research and practice of communication.
"We should add critical evaluation to data mining, which requires human judgment and lies in the heart of evidence-based approach," he said.
Li Liangrong, director of the research center for communication and state governance at Fudan, shared a research about the evolution and changes to the mentality of young Chinese internet users.
Representatives from universities, media outlets and government agencies also attended the forum.
