Alumnus donates record $40m to Wuhan University
On Wuhan University's 128th anniversary on Tuesday, Charlie Huang made a donation of $40 million to his alma mater through his private philanthropic foundation. It was the largest personal donation the university has received to date.
Huang enrolled at the university in 1982, earning a bachelor's degree in economics in 1986. He is the founder and chairman of Pasaca Capital Inc and Innova Medical Group, Inc. He said donating to his alma mater has been a longtime dream.
"Education is a great cause that drives human progress and should receive selfless support. Entering Wuhan University was a very important starting point in my life. I am convinced that all my personal achievements could not have been realized without the education of my alma mater," he said.
"The donation to my alma mater is only a beginning of my philanthropic career, and more donations will be made in the future in the direction of education and medicine."
