President Xi Jinping will attend the 13th BRICS summit on Thursday in Beijing via video link at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying announced on Wednesday.
The theme for this year is "BRICS @ 15: Intra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus", reflecting how this year marks the 15th anniversary of the coalition.
BRICS is the acronym for an emerging-market bloc that groups together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
President Xi attended the 12th BRICS summit held by Russia via video link in Beijing on Nov 17 last year.
