A woman diagnosed with plague is receiving treatment in a hospital in Yinchuan, Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, after falling ill in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
Yinchuan, capital city of Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, has initiated a level four emergency response for plague after a female was confirmed with the infection on Saturday.
On Aug 21, the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University in Yinchuan confirmed a female infected with plague. Yinchuan then initiated a level four emergency response, the lowest among the four levels for the plague.
The autonomous region's government said it would start plague prevention and control from 1 am on Monday, ensuring instant treatments for the infected and strict control of involved places and people to curb its spread.
The woman lives in Wulan Town, Etok Banner, Ordos city, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and is engaged in grazing all year round. She showed symptoms of nausea and vomiting and went to a clinic in Wulan Town on Aug 14.
On the early morning of Aug 17, the women's son drove her to the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, where she was admitted to the hospital. Three days later she was diagnosed as a suspected case of plague. The diagnosis was confirmed on Aug 21 and she is now in a critical situation.
