Weightlifing magic emerges at Chuanshi Island

Conditions at Chuanshi Island were hard. Team members had to cut firewood for the kitchen themselves and take turns helping with the cooking.
The weight rooms were converted from old military barracks.
Wan Jianhui, a team member, recalled the determination of the group to win medals. Everyone was focused intensely on that goal.
Wan broke the world record in the men’s 69kg category in 1998. He later trained Lin Qingfeng, who won a gold medal at the London Olympic Games in 2012.
