Jiangsu reports 35 new local transmissions
East China's Jiangsu province reported 35 new locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, according to the Jiangsu Health Commission on Wednesday morning.
Of the cases, Nanjing reported three and Yangzhou registered 32.
Provincial capital Nanjing has reported 223 locally transmitted confirmed cases since July 20. Two patients in Nanjing who are still in serious condition are receiving treatment in a designated hospital.
Of the 126 reported cases in Yangzhou, four are in serious condition and another two are in critical condition, the health commission said.
Many of the patients in Yangzhou are seniors aged 60 and above who were infected when they played mahjong in densely populated lounges with poor ventilation, the commission said.
Yangzhou has quarantined more than 3,000 people who lived in the same community as "patient zero", who went to the city via Nanjing and has been detained on suspicion of impeding the prevention of infectious diseases by refusing to report her travel history upon arrival.
