Traffic has been heavily affected by the downpour that hit Zhengzhou in Central China's Henan province, causing several freeways to close and train services to halt.

Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, lies in the center of China. The city is a major traffic hub in the country with several railways and freeways passing by.

On Tuesday, extremely heavy rainfall hit Henan, with precipitation in Zhengzhou exceeding the highest level in local weather records, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management.

The record rainstorms in Zhengzhou have caused severe waterlogging, traffic disruptions and power outages.

Traffic has been disrupted in up to 30 sections of national and provincial highways in Henan due to flooding and collapsed roads, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Early on Wednesday, 26 expressways in the region reported partial closures, but there are not high numbers of vehicles and travelers stranded, the ministry said.

As torrential rains stopped many train services, railway operators have made great efforts to ensure the railway's safe operation and provide sufficient supplies, including providing food and water, to passengers who have been stranded onboard, national railway operator China State Railway Group said.

Hit by heavy rains, trains passing by Zhengzhou have been affected, such as services along the Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway and the Xuzhou-Lanzhou High-speed Railway.

Railway operators have carried out measures to ensure safety, such as stopping services and lowering operation speed.
