Dortmund sign Stuttgart goalkeeper Kobel
BERLIN - Borussia Dortmund have signed custodian Gregor Kobel from league rivals Stuttgart, the current German Cup champions confirmed in an official statement on Monday.
The 23-year-old new arrival has put pen to paper on a five-year deal to keep him at Dortmund until June 2026.
"We are very happy that Gregor Kobel has opted for Borussia Dortmund. We see great potential in him. Gregor's determination, ambition and consistency are remarkable," Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said.
Kobel, who stood between the posts in 33 Bundesliga appearances for newly promoted Stuttgart, will battle with his teammates Roman Burki and Marwin Hitz for the starting spot.
"Borussia Dortmund is one of the largest and most famous football clubs in the world. It makes me proud to play for the BVB. I would like to do my part for future Dortmund successes," Kobel said.
Dortmund clinched the German Cup title after beating Leipzig 4-1 in the final and concluded the Bundesliga season on the 3rd spot, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League's group stage.
Switzerland international Kobel will travel with the "Nati" to the EURO 2021 this summer.
