Despite being a cloudy, rainy day in Zunyi, Southwest China's Guizhou province, the site of the Zunyi Conference — a highly popular "red tourism" spot — is packed with people.

"We came here out of respect to the deceased, without whom we could not live such a good life. More importantly, we want to feel the spirit of perseverance and hope to pass it on to the next generation," said a 60-something traveler surnamed Meng.

"Red tourism" in Zunyi has seen a boom over the years, with more people visiting historical sites related to the revolution led by the Communist Party of China from 1921 to 1949.

Zheng Xin, an official with the Zunyi municipal government, said "red tourism" is enjoying increasing popularity among visitors. Going forward there will be stepped-up efforts to enrich the cultural connotations of the "red tourism" and improve its quality.
