Guangdong overcomes Beijing, Shenzhen past Shanghai


ZHUJI, China - The Guangdong Southern Tigers defeated the Beijing Ducks 90-83, marking their ninth straight win in the CBA, while the Shenzhen Aviators eased past the Shanghai Sharks 113-99 here on Monday.
The game was very physical as the two teams totaled as many as 64 fouls and neither team's shooting percentage went over 45%. Shooters of both team were struggled in the first half, which Beijing led 37-36 after Justin Hamilton's shot.
Zhao Rui started to take charge on the offensive side in the final quarter, hitting 16 of his game-high 19 points with straight three-pointers to help Guangdong taking the lead en route to the victory. Hu Mingxuan added 18 points for Guangdong.
"I didn't have a good start tonight," said Zhao who only made three points in the first three quarters. "Luckily I made some adjustments and came back to the normal track."
Elsewhere on Monday, Shen Zijie scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, helping the Shenzhen Aviators beat the Shanghai Sharks 113-99.
Ju Mingxin and Deng Meng hit consecutive three-pointers for Shanghai and Luo Hanchen's layup helped Shanghai lead 49-48 in the first half. However, Shenzhen went on for a 36-25 run in the third quarter and took a double-digit lead.
Shenzhen played more aggressively at both ends, expanding the gap in the last quarter and ensure the victory.
After this game, Shanghai lost its chance to make it to the playoffs.
Also on Monday, the Zhejiang Golden Bulls edged the Sichuan Blue Whales 106-101, and the Fujian Sturgeons beat the Shanxi Loongs 129-111.
