Washington urged to take rational path
Efforts by the United States to target certain countries will not go anywhere, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman said in urging the US to take a rational and practical policy toward China.
Wang Wenbin made the remarks in response to a speech by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday in which he described the US relationship with China as "the biggest geopolitical test of the 21st century". Blinken also emphasized the need for the US to work with allies and partners to engage with China.
At a daily news conference, Wang said: "Dialogue and cooperation are always better than confrontation."
He said that as long as the two countries stick to the principle of mutual respect and equality, in spite of their different histories, cultures and political systems, they can find ways to manage their differences and achieve win-win results.
China is committed to developing a relationship with the US built on nonconfrontation, non-conflict, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, the spokesman said.
At the same time, Wang added, Beijing will resolutely continue to safeguard China's national sovereignty, security, and development interests.
China hopes the US will view bilateral relations in a rational and objective manner, abandon its outdated zero-sum game mindset, and meet China halfway, Wang said. He said Beijing also hopes Washington will focus on cooperation and return bilateral ties to the right track, delivering benefits to both countries and the world.
