Cai Lihua, a 95-year-old survivor of the Nanjing Massacre, died on Monday, reducing the number of officially registered survivors to 70, according to the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.

Cai once testified that she saw Japanese soldiers tie her father's hands to a wooden staircase before stabbing his eyes with a bayonet, blinding him and leaving and egg-sized holes.

He was later shot and killed. Her mother was also shot and stabbed in the back with a bayonet as Cai hid under a table.

The atrocity happened in December 1937. Japanese troops captured Nanjing on Dec 13 that year and subsequently killed more than 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers over a six-week period.

Cai was the second massacre survivor to die this year. Yang Cuiying, 96, died on Jan 28.
