Xi's article on China's medium- and long-term economic, social development strategy to be published

BEIJING -- An article by President Xi Jinping on major issues concerning China's medium- and long-term economic and social development strategy will be published Sunday.

The article by Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will be published in the 21st issue of the Qiushi Journal.

The article says that the world is undergoing major changes unseen in a century and the COVID-19 epidemic is both a crisis and a big test for China.

Stressing the need to draw lessons from experience and adopt a forward-thinking approach, it calls for efforts to improve the strategy so that the crisis is transformed into opportunities securing high-quality development.

The article underscores expanding domestic consumption so that all links including production, distribution, logistics and consumption can rely more on the domestic market to sustain a positive growth cycle.

It stresses optimizing and stabilizing the industrial chain and supply chain, urging more efforts on the development of a self-developed, controllable, safe and reliable domestic production and supply system in areas and nodes concerning national security.

The article calls for improving China's urbanization strategy and taking people's life and health as the basic goal of urban development to make cities healthier, safer and more livable.

Underscoring the need to strengthen the development of the country's public health system, the article urges enhancing its position in the national governance system from the perspective of top-level design.
