A Chinese soldier who went missing along the China-India border on Sunday night has been found by Indian border troops, and the Indian side promised to return him to China after a medical exam, said Senior Colonel Zhang Shuili, a spokesman of the People's Liberation Army Western Theater Command, in a statement on Monday night.

The PLA solider got lost while helping a herdsman find his yaks along the border region, Zhang said. China immediately notified India after the incident and hoped it could assist in the search and rescue efforts, and the Indian side agreed and promised to return the lost solider once found, he added.

India later notified China the missing solider had been found and would be returned to China after a medical exam, Zhang said.

"We hope India will keep its promise and return the person as soon as possible as a way to fulfill the consensus reached at the seventh round of China-India military commanders' talks and jointly safeguard peace and stability of the border areas."
