Editor's note: The decision of Changzh city in Shanxi province to include eyesight and weight as part of high school entrance exam has sparked a heated debate. According to the local authorities, starting 2022, students will be assessed on their "physical fitness", including eyesight and weight, as a part of the city's educational reform. Pupils who fail to meet the requirement of "normal" eyesight or weight will not get the full five points during their high school entrance exam, which determines whether students can get accepted by the high school of their choice. So, should eyesight be included in high school entrance exam? Readers share their opinions.

Bad eyesight can be inherited. Environmental factors can affect the vision. Eye diseases, accidental injury and improper use of eyes can also cause poor vision. Each of these factors should be taken into account before decision-making, and this "one-size-fits-all" regulation seems unfair, arbitrary and may fail to reach the goal.
