Chinese university president elected as member of Academia Europaea
BEIJING - Chinese scientist Kang Le, president of the Hebei University, has been elected as a member of Academia Europaea, the China Science Daily reported on Friday.
He was elected to the Organismic and Evolutionary Biology section of this European academy for years of work in ecological genomics, said the newspaper, citing sources from the university.
His latest study, published in the journal Nature, discovered a smelly locust compound behind these pests' swarming, arousing widespread concern from the international scientific community.
Kang is also a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China's highest academic institution in natural sciences.
Founded in 1988, Academia Europaea is a non-governmental scientific association based in London. Current membership stands at around 4,000. Among them, 72 are Nobel laureates.
