Caregiver jailed for abusing elderly woman

A caregiver has been sentenced to a year in jail for abusing an 85-year-old woman she had looked after for three years in Beijing, the Chaoyang District Court announced on Thursday.
The court also prohibited the 59-year-old caregiver, surnamed Xu, from doing nursing work for three years.
Forensic evidence showed the elderly woman had suffered minor facial injuries. The victim's son said that his mother was left with psychological trauma from the abuse.
The elderly woman, surnamed Tang, has vascular heart and brain disease and can't express herself.
In 2018, the son installed a surveillance camera in his mother's home. From April 19 to 25, the camera captured images of Xu slapping Tang's face, pulling her hair and kicking her.
On April 20, Xu was irritated by getting Tang's feces on herself and beat the elderly woman.
On April 25, the footage showed Xu hitting Tang's head five times over a 16-second period. The son viewed the footage the same day and reported the assault to the police.
Xu confessed to the offenses and told the court she would not appeal its decision.
