Police in Jiangxi province's Le'an county offered a 300,000 yuan ($43,211) reward on Thursday for information leading to the capture of a man suspected of killing three people and injuring one in the past week.

The reward was raised from 50,000 yuan on Saturday, after media reports said suspect Zeng Chunliang killed a local poverty relief official on Thursday during his escape from police, who were chasing him for a homicide case that led to two deaths and one injury on Saturday.

According to the notice released by the public security bureau of Le'an county on Thursday, Zeng, a local villager, is believed to be hiding and fleeing around the county.

During the manhunt, an auxiliary police officer in Le'an was hit by a truck failing to applying brakes promptly. He died on Thursday afternoon while examining vehicles passing by a provincial-level highway, according to ThePaper.cn, an online news portal.

The auxiliary police officer, surnamed Du, went on to patrol the highway out of concern that Zeng might take a car to flee , an official with the county government was quoted as saying. Du had previously participated in rescuing villagers stranded by flood waters during the heavy rainfall in mid-July.
