Rain causes widespread train cancellations

Strong rainfall over the weekend forced the cancellation or delay of several trains in Guangdong province, according to the China Railway Guangzhou Group Co.
Trains connecting Wuhan with Guangzhou, Beijing with Guangzhou and Xiamen with Shenzhen were particularly affected, as heavy rains hit cities of Qingyuan and Huizhou, through which the trains would pass.
Strong rain hit the Feilaixia-Pajiangkou section of the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway over the weekend, resulting in the delay of several trains early on Monday.
Also, some high-speed trains departing from Shenzhen to Xiamen, Fujian province; to Changsha, Hunan province; and Meizhou, Guangdong province, were canceled on Monday.
Some trains between Guangzhou and Chaozhou and Shantou were also cancelled, the company said.
Heavy downpours, known as dragon boat rain — a reference to the typical precipitation around the Dragon Boat Festival and covering the period near the summer solstice between May 21 and June 20 — will continue to hit most parts of Guangdong on Tuesday, according to the local weather authorities.
