World Karate Federation to prepare tentative calendar for 2020-2021

MADRID - The World Karate Federation (WKF) has presented a new tentative calendar for 2020 and 2021 in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The executive committee members recently discussed prospects of the sport amid the coronavirus outbreak via video conference.
The WKF announced that a new calendar in the 2020 and 2021 has now been "evaluated." "A tentative calendar for 2020 and 2021 was presented, with the final dates to be confirmed in the near future," the WKF said.
This year's Karate World Championships are currently scheduled for between November 17 and 22 in Dubai, while Cape Town is going to host the 2021 Cadet, Junior and Under-21 World Championships.
Members also discussed a revised qualification system for the sport's Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, which has been postponed to 2021.
"The Karate family has demonstrated time after time that we get the best of ourselves in troubled times. I am convinced that our sport continues to move in the right direction despite the current challenges," said WKF President Antonio Espinos.
