A scenic spot with steep and colorful red sandstone cliffs, located only 30 kilometers away from downtown Lanzhou, has opened on Saturday to the public in this capital city of Northwest China's Gansu province.
The stunning landforms, known as danxia in Chinese, are located in Shuping town, Yongdeng county, Lanzhou. The geomorphological group was formed in the third Cretaceous period, about 150 million years ago.
The scenic area features gullies and hills striated in a variety of colors, such as red, yellow, orange, green, white, blue-gray and charcoal.
