WARSAW - Juventus FC goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny insisted that he is happy in his club and says he supports Italy in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak.

Serie A competitions were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic as the number of victims in Italy approached 3000. Szczesny expressed his support for the country via social media.

"One might consider himself unlucky to be in Italy in this moment - the country hit hardest by the virus. But I don't agree. I feel lucky to be here because I know this is a country that will beat this virus with unity and passion that Italians are famous for," he wrote on Wednesday.

Szczesny admitted that he "terribly" misses his family but he is "proud to share this difficult moment with the people of Italy."

Szczesny had tests on COVID-19 after his two teammates Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi both tested positive. The goalkeeper is still awaiting the results, while Poland defender Bartosz Bereszynski, who was infected with the virus, informed the Polish media that "he feels good and hopes that the worst is behind him."
