Italian authorities are to close all schools and universities across the country until mid-March as the government struggles to contain Europe's worst outbreak of novel coronavirus, local media has reported.

The decision was taken as the number of confirmed cases in Italy rose to more than 2,500, with the death toll jumping to 92 as of Wednesday noon time.
