From 22 to 23 February, the China-WHO Joint Expert Mission on the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak took a field trip to Hubei Province of China. The mission visited the Guanggu section of Tongji Hospital and the mobile hospital at Wuhan Sports Center, and went to the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention to learn about the epidemic control and medical treatment efforts of Hubei and its capital city Wuhan. The mission also had an exchange with leading officials and experts of the provincial inter-agency taskforce. On 23rd in Wuhan, the mission shared its observations, key discoveries and recommendations with Minister Ma Xiaowei of the National Health Commission.

Minister Ma expressed appreciation to the mission for coming to China at a critical moment of the fight against the outbreak and giving valuable advice to help China and the world better respond to the outbreak. He reiterated that the rigorous measures taken by China are not only safeguarding the health of the Chinese people, but also contributing to global public health security. China is confident and determined to defeat the epidemic. Following the guidelines of the CPC Central Committee on boosting confidence and unity and taking resolute, science-based and targeted actions, China will continue to adopt region-specific measures in light of outbreak intensity, keep updating the differentiated strategies and strike a proper balance between epidemic control and economic and social development. China will continue to improve its mechanisms and institutions for prevention and control of major epidemic outbreaks, as well as its national public health emergency management system, and further strengthen its cooperation with WHO.
