Veszprem edge Montpellier 24-23 in EHF Champions League
BUDAPEST - Hungary's Telekom Veszprem HC beat France's Montpellier HB 24-23 in Group B of the men's European Handball Federation (EHF) Champions League in Veszprem on Sunday.
Veszprem started off with great impetus, goals quickly followed and the home defense closed well. But French team's Kyllian Villeminot, 21, threw the visitors' first three goals.
The Hungarians, who were fueled by a wish to take revenge for the 23-18 loss they suffered from Montpellier last September in France, ended the first half with a 16-14 lead.
In the second half, Veszprem always kept the lead, but the French side did slow down the Hungarians' attack, as their strong defense managed to subdue the pressure.
With the victory, Veszprem secured the second place in the group.
